Work-Life Balance in ABA: Supporting Our Team
ABA therapy is rewarding but can be demanding. At Family Centered Practices Group, we prioritize our team’s well-being.
How We Support Our Team:
- Flexible Work Schedules: Working as a behaviour consultant offers an incredible level of flexibility that is often hard to find in other careers. One of the most appealing aspects of this role is the ability to set your own schedule, allowing you to create a work-life balance that fits your personal needs. Whether you prefer to work part-time, full-time, or on a more flexible schedule, this career provides you with the autonomy to choose the number of hours that works best for you. You also have the ability to set your own vacation times, giving you control over your personal time and ensuring you can take breaks when you need to recharge. In addition to the flexible hours, behaviour consultants often work in a variety of dynamic settings, such as a client’s home and community environments like daycares or schools. This diversity in work environments keeps the job fresh and exciting, as no two days are ever the same. You get to experience different contexts, each bringing new challenges and learning opportunities that keep you engaged and motivated. The flexibility in this career goes beyond just hours and vacation time. As a behaviour consultant, you’re supported in building time management systems that suit your needs. Whether you prefer to work from a structured daily schedule or enjoy flexibility in your tasks, you have the tools and support to create systems that maximize your productivity without compromising your personal well-being.
- Supporting clients mental health and well-being: At Family Centered Practices Group (FCPG), we understand the importance of creating a supportive and collaborative environment for both our consultants and interventionists. As a team, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has the resources, guidance, and emotional support needed to succeed in their roles and provide the best care to the families we serve. One of the key ways we support our consultants is through regular check-ins and monthly meetings with their supervisors. These meetings are designed to provide consultants with dedicated time to discuss any challenges they may be facing in the field. Whether it’s navigating a particularly complex situation with a client or looking for fresh ideas to approach a specific behavior or intervention strategy, our consultants have the opportunity to collaborate directly with their supervisors for support. These meetings serve as a space for problem-solving, brainstorming, and ensuring that our consultants feel empowered and confident in their work. But support doesn’t stop at supervision meetings. At FCPG, there are many people available to support consultants! This team includes a dedicated HR Generalist who works tirelessly behind the scenes to support both interventionists and consultants. The HR Generalist is available to address any personal or professional concerns, provide guidance on best practices, and ensure that the team is well-equipped with the tools and resources they need.
- Collaborative Team Culture: We also recognize that maintaining a strong, positive team culture is essential for the mental well-being of our staff. That’s why FCPG hosts regular social events and team-building opportunities for our staff. These events are designed to foster connection, celebrate accomplishments, and create opportunities for our team members to unwind and bond outside of the work environment. Whether it’s a casual gathering, a team-building activity, or a celebration of milestones, these moments provide much-needed breaks and help strengthen the sense of community within our team. A strong, connected team is not only more effective in their work but also better equipped to handle the emotional and mental challenges that can come with this type of work.
